Learn how lighting could help you beat the Winter blues

30th March 2018

With daylight savings coming to an end in the Southern States of Australia, we take a look at the impact that less daylight hours, colder weather and more time inside can have on our bodies.

Commonly known as the Winter blues or SADs (Seasonal Affective Disorder), the physiological and psychological changes experienced during the colder months can negatively affect some people’s mood, sleep and overall sense of wellbeing.

Our study “Emulating the Sun: The Benefits of Tru-Colour LEDs During the Cooler Months” outlines how using indoor lighting that more closely emulates the sun can combat the effect that shorter days and less natural light has on our bodies.

Whilst the high quality phosphors in Tru-Colour LEDs were originally developed to improve the appearance of interior environments, our research explores how the higher R9 (vibrant red) levels in Tru-Colour LEDs better mimic the natural afternoon sunlight to minimise the effects of the winter blues.
